The nearby Barmera-Berri Council also made a decision not to fly the flag. 'The decision was based on just putting into place what we've had in practice over a good number of years and that's those four flags we've been flying.' 'Our current practice is to fly the Australian, South Australian and Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal flags,' District Council of Loxton Waikerie chief executive Peter Ackland said. Of the 34 local governments that turned down the request, 32 were based in the state's rural and regional areas, including the Riverland. Organisers of November's Feast Festival in Adelaide sent a request to the state's 68 councils to fly rainbow flags, but 34 rejected the proposal and 11 were yet to decide.
